Our Love for the Australian Shepherd has been going strong for many years now since we found our first Aussie Patches on the side of the road. She was so little, frightened and soaking wet from the pounding rain. Someone had either dumped her off or she had wondered a very long way from home.

We has no idea what kind of puppy she was, only that she needed us. Little did we know how much we would come to need and care for her.

We named this little girl "Patches" because she had beautiful blue/gray spots all over her body and long tail . We later found out that tails are normally docked in Aussie's. We took Patches to the Vet and had her spayed which is how we found out that she was an Australian Shepherd. WHAT A SURPRISE SHE TURNED OUT TO BE. SHE WAS MY FIRST PURE BREED DOG AND A RESCUE AT THAT. Patches constantly amazed me and my family with her wit, brains and charm.

I had never know a dog as smart as this little girl nor a dog as loving and loyal.

Unfortunately I did not know a lot about the breed and did not realize that most Aussie's need to have a "job" to keep them physically and mentally challenged.

Patches seemed pretty content to be our companion, play fetch, warm my feet at night and run off offending mean neighbor dogs, but it was her strong need to herd that became her demise.

Patches escaped our fenced yard and was killed by a neighbor when she tried to herd his truck tires. I cried inside for days and still miss her now some 8 years later. I had lost my best friend........... Please learn from my mistake and be sure your fence is very tall and very secure if you have one of these wonderful dogs.

While she was with us Patches became our friend, protector, children's playmate, and the foundation for a love of the breed that grows strong here at Heavensown today.

The incredible love and devotion that she gave us will always be in our hearts.

We miss you Patches and will always love you!

She was a gift from Heaven thus our Kennel name became..........

Ayla (the agility wonder dog) and Susan her mommy show off a few of her ribbons. We could not be any more proud of both of you. Gastroparesis is a illness that causes severe digestive problems for those of us who are affected. Gastroparesis literally means paralyzed stomach. It is a devastating condition that is fairly common among the diabetic population BUT it is not limited to only diabetic people. My problems began when my stomach stopped working after bleeding ulcer surgery several years ago. I have had problems being slightly over weight my entire life but not anymore....what I would give to still be a little over weight and not be starving to death anymore!

" Gastroparesis results in delayed emptying of food and liquid from the stomach. Once food is ingested, it often sits in the stomach for hours or even days because the stomach does not contract very well, if at all. Gastroparesis is one of the most difficult gastrointestinal disorders to treat." There are limited treatment options, but uncontrolled Gastroparesis can have serious consequences including malnutrition, dehydration, and weight loss, hair loss and loss of teeth due to malnutrition." Many doctors know very little about Gastroparesis so often newly diagnosed patients do not understand their condition or the treatment options available to them." It amazes me that there are thousands of us who are starving to death and there is no cure in site.............Please Pray for divine healing for this horrible disease.

Me (Donna), Angie (our 19 year old daughter) and the hubby James. This picture was taken on our last vacation some 3 years ago in Tenn at the Opry Land Hotel. Such a beutiful place. Now we just have to find a way to get to take another vacation! It is very difficult with our rescue work and all the aussies plus my illness limits my ability to travel most of the time.

Keep up in your prayers please as we try to follow the path the Lord would have us take in our daily walk in life!
